Opportunities - Upcoming Shorts & Bloomers

Wake up Reliefators!

The summer's coming to a close, and whether this makes you giddy with joy at returning to a full year of theatre, or crushed by sadness that the vacation is ending, we have some happy news for you.
There are two Shorts and Bloomers happening at the beginning of this academic year!
The first will take place at Bedlam Theatre as part of our friends', the EUTC, Freshers' Week Festival. It is from 5:15pm-6:15pm on Friday 13 September. This will be a sort of demonstration of what Shorts and Bloomers is about, and will be a jam packed hour of fun.

The second will be in the Cabaret Bar at Pleasance on the 20th of September, from around 7.30.

Shorts and Bloomers is a sort of scratch night we do in collaboration with Theatre Paradok, where anyone can try out a performance of any kind they have been working on.

Let us know if you fancy performing, or need help getting an idea into physical form! As always, you can contact us at relieftheatre@gmail.com!

Looking forward to seeing everyone once more!

Opportunities - Reliefators in Ellen Kent's 'Carmen'

Thanks to our former Workshops Coordinator Sebastian King, some Reliefators were given the chance to perform as extras in Ellen Kent Opera's Carmen. And the fun they had! Logically, not everyday one can wander around dressed as a Spanish matador.

Relief's toreros: Daniel, James, and Adam.
Marta and Athina, Spanish jewels among the rest of the female cast.

Opportunities - Singers Needed for Productions in Edinburgh

Good-day, Reliefators!
Apparently there are many opportunities this year for young singers around Edinburgh:

· Opera Camerata are starting rehearsals tonight for The Magic Flute at 7:30pm in St Ninian's Church, Corstorphine. Their show takes place every October at the Churchhill Theatre, Morningside. If you aren't a natural singer, you can also contact them about helping with stage and front of house.

· Edinburgh Grand Opera are also looking for singers (especially tenors). A good time to join them is around September, when the new season begins. They meet on Mondays, then nearer the show on Thursdays and Sundays.

So if you feel you have the talent of singing in front of an audience (without making their ears bleed, that is) then don't be shy and go!

Ongoing - Pictures from Oedipus Offstage

Oedipus Offstage's rehearsals are not ordinary rehearsals. And if you don't believe me, just take a look at the following pictures.
In the last few days, the cast has organized a couple of long-form improvisations to work on character interaction and get some material for the script. On Wednesday, the family gathered together to enjoy a nice dinner and taste some delicious foreign food (American, mostly, plus some Athenian wine) while on Saturday the ruling couple decided to take the children and some servants for a picnic, after which they headed to Teviot's tavern in order to watch the Grand National.

The royal family (less Antigone, who was indisposed)
having an exotic banquet.
The service, absconding from their obligations.
Everything has its right place, or so Eteocles thinks.
Not everyday one can enjoy a sunny picnic in Thebes.
"Sitting in the Sun,
Your Love hits me like a gun.
With you I have lots of fun.
Please don't become a nun."
by Haemon, Son of Creon
Oedipus looks distressed.
Jocasta looks like a teapot in that hat.
The bread looks oppressed.

Also, be prepared for soon we'll be announcing an Extraordinary General Meeting to vote on our new Workshops Coordinator.

Ongoing - Snippets from Oedipus Offstage

Oedipus Offstage is going very well. But after two months rehearsing, improvisation has led to some amusing traits in some of the characters. For instance, Adam Butler's Haemon had developed an interest in poetry. Sadly, his skills are not as good as one would expect.
Here's his last work, a poem for Antigone:

I love you when you're here.
Even when you're not near.
But your voice I'd like to hear.
In my eyes there is a tear.

Heartbreaking, is it not?

Stay tuned for more snippets from our current production and for more updates on the company!
